Aim: To analyse CDX2 expression in reflux esophagitis (RE), Barrett esophagus(BE), BE with dysplasia, and esophageal adenocarcinoma and study whether CDX2 is involved in the development of BE and the relationship between CDX2 and BE.Methods: This study consists of 28 biopsies of reflux esophagitis(stageâ… 3,â…¡10,â…¢15), 37 biopsies of BE, 37 squamous biopsies taken 2cm above BE,18 biopsies of BE with dysplasia, 32 biopsies of esophageal carcinoma(adenocarcinoma 17,squmous cancer 15), 10 biopsies of normal esophagusa as normal control, 5 biopsies of normal colon as positive control. Immunohistochemistry S-P methods was performed using CDX2 monoclonal antibody to detect CDX2 protein expression in One handred and sixty-seven paraffin wax embedded biopsies . The SPSS 13.0 was used to analyse the results.Results: CDX2 mainly express in the nucleus of intestinal metaplastic cell in esophagus mucosa. In 28 reflux esophagitis biopsies, CDX2 expression was as follows: no expression 20(71.4%),weak expression 5 (17.9%),moderate expression 3 (10.7%).The rate of positive expression was 28.6%, a stronger stain was observed in stageâ…¢compared toâ… -â…¡, a statistically significant difference (p<0.05). In 37 Barrett esophagus biopsies, the intensity of staining was as follows: weak expression 3(8.1%),moderate expression 11(29.7%),strong expression 23(62.2%). The rate of positive expression was 100%, the main intensity of staining of BE was ++-+++(34, 91.1%).
