[Background and Objective] Renal tubulointerstitial fibrosis play an importantrole in all of progressive renal diseases. Inflammatory cell infiltration, various cytokine and accumulation of extracellular matrix lead to fibroblast proliferation. Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) and tissue inhibitors of matrix metalloproteinases (TIMPs) is crucial for extracellular matrix remodeling. Rosiglitazone(RGZ), a member of thiazolidinediones, has universal effects byactivating peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ . Telmisartan(TEL), anangiotensin II 1 type receptor antagonist, inhibits angiotensin II. Studys show that Rosiglitazone can reduce the expression of AT1 receptor, and Telmisartan can actas a partial agonist of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ . Rosiglitazoneand Telmisartan have renal protection for their mechanism of decrease in inflammatory cell infiltration, downregulation of transforming growth factor-beta1(TGF- β1), ameliorating of imbalance of MMPs/TIMPs. But it is not reported thatif the combination of Rosiglitazone and Telmisartan has synergism on the results of slowing-down renal interstitial fibrosis in vivo. Therefore, the rat model of unilateral ureteral obstruction(UUO) was choosed to observe the effect of the combination of Rosiglitazone and Telmisartan.[Methods] Healthy female SD rats (BW180220g) were randomly allocated into...
