American Ginseng(Panax quinquefolinm L.) is placed in the genus Panax, araliaceae. Because of its special properties and functions,it is widely accepted in the world. Its chemical constituents are really complicated, but ginsenosides as the main composition. Till now, about 40 ginsenosides have been isolated and identified from American Ginseng. But up to now, the most studies of American Ginseng are the dry American Ginseng, and the reports on studies of its processed products-the red American Ginseng are very few. Therefore, it is necessary to systematically extensive study the chemical constituents of the red American Ginseng. For this purpose, we have systematically studied the different kinds of chemical constituents of the the red American Ginseng, Our aiming is to develop Chinese traditional medicine, and also provides scientific basis for the future research of American Ginseng. The auther drawed up different extractive process, by making use of organic solvent,D101-Macro-reticular Resins, Silica Gel Dry Column Chromatography, and other isolation measures, eleven monomeric compounds were isolated from the red American Ginseng. Based on the physical constants, chemical evidence and spectrum analysis, they were substantiated as 4-Hydroxy-3-Methoxy Benzaldehyde and ten saponins. The ten monomeric saponins were respectively ginsenoside-Rb1, ginsenoside-Rg1, ginsenoside-Rg2, ginsenoside-Rg3, ginsenoside-Rh1, ginsenoside-Rb3, ginsenoside-Re, ginsenoside-h2, ginsenoside-Rd, pseudoginsenoside-F11, 4-Hydroxy-3-Methoxy Benzaldehyde was isolated from the red American Ginseng for the first time.RP-HPLC was used to determinate the ginsenosides in the dry American Ginseng and red American Ginseng. The results showed that the contents were 3.7086% in the red American Ginseng and 3.9097% in the dry American Ginseng.Used ACP-AES instrument, the inorganic elements in the red American Ginseng was first detected. The result showed that there were 14 kinds of inorganic elements in the red...
