【Objective】Thrombocytopenia is a common clinical problem in the blood related diseases, especially in the patients with chemotherapy. The treatment for thrombocytopenia is still not satisfied. The root of Angelica Sinensis (Chinese Danggui), a traditional Chinese herb, has been used as a remedy for regulating and enriching blood for up to 2000 years. The practice and experience have proven its efficacy and safety. Modern studies attribute hematopoietic effect of Angelica Sinensis to its constituent-angelica polysaccharide(APS). APS has been proven to have the effect of enhancing the proliferation of hematopoiesis including BFU-E, CFU-E and CFU-GM. However, the mechanism of APS on hematopoiesis and its effect on megakaryocyte/platelet lineage has not been studied. In this project, the effect of APS on the proliferation and apoptosis of human megakaryocytic cell line and the molecular mechanism will be studied. APS, if proven as a potential growth factor for human megakaryocytopoiesis and thrombopoiesis, could be applied to develop a new drug for the treatment of thrombocytopenia and myelosuppression.【Methods】The effect of APS on proliferation and apoptosis of MK...
