The article is about studies on the quality and extraction procedure of total flavones of Scutellaria barbata D.Don on which base the study of documents of it.The quality study shows that the quantitative distribution of total flavones in Scutellaria barbata D.Don is as following:leaf>new stem>root>old stem>fruit(including persistent calyx);Jiangxi>Henan>Jiangsu>Zhejiang>Fujian;July>June>Augest. The contents of Scutellarin in Scutellaria barbata D.Don from different producing areas, different harvest times and the different parts of it are not equal. On the basis of modern studies on the chemical constituent, pharmacological fountion of Scutellaria barbata D.Don, extraction procedure of total flavones has studied. Orthogonal test was employed in selection of optimal condition for the extraction procedure and the conditions were optimized as follows:adding 10 times of 75% ethanol, extracting for 1.0 hours and three times in all. Moreover, total flavones from Scutellaria barbata D.Don was purified by macroporous resin. Conditions that total flavones were purified by D—101 type of macroporous resin were optimized as follows:concentration of extract 13.3403mg/ml, PH=3, rate of adding extract 2BV/h, wash rate 2ml/min, volume of eluant 10BV, when 50% alcohol was usesd as eluant. The contents of total flavones and Scutellarin in extract are 52.14%, 12.47% respectively. In addition to, the draft of quality standard of extract of total flavones were made. The above studies will lay a foundation for the further development of Scutellaria barbata D.Don.
