It was fist reported that the extract from some plants can show some properties of endogenous steroid estrogen in 1926. In 1990s, the documents on phytoestrogen have increased sharply. Phytoestrogen is a group of compound from natural plants. Its structure and biological function are similar to estrogen, and it can be connected with estrogen receptors, mimicing the pharmacological actions of the estrogen. Phytoestrogen can be found in nearly all kinds of food, including soy beans, cereals, green vegetables, fruits and nuts. According to phytoestrogen's different molecule structure, it includes four categories: (1) isflavones: including daidzein(DDZ), genistein(GST), formononetin and biochanin A. (2) lignans. (3) coumestans. (4) mycoestrogen. At present, isflavones, espetially DDZ and GST, is the main research subject in most experiments. Phytoestrogen exits in plants in an inactive form and can be changed into an active molecule in the body's intestines and can be transformed into equol and O-demethylangolesin (ODMA) which is similar to estrogen at last.It has been widely accepted that GST can play an important...
