Objective: Experiments verified that the Chinese traditional medicine Equisetum could prevent the progression of atherosclerosis by different ways. Equisetum has obvious effect on decreasing the serum levels of total cholesterol, triglyceride, and low density lipoprotein, and increasing the serum level of high density lipoprotein in atherosclerotic rats. Equisetum can decrease the expression of adhesion molecule of mononuclear, protect aorta endothelial cell, inhibit monocyte adhering to endothelium and decrease the proliferation of vascular smooth muscle cell in rats fed with Equisetum .The present experiment is to study the effective part of Equisetum on serum level and aortic morphology in early atherosclerosis rats fed with high fat diet.Methods:1 The Equisetum was cut into pieces and extracted by different solvents, including distilled water and n-butano. All extracts were pooled together and concentrated. The concentrate which was extracted by n-butano named extract I . The rest named extract II. Both the concentrates were stored in a freezer.2 Sixty Sprague-Dawley rats were divided at random into five groups: normal group, model group, control group received...
