Background and Objective: The receptor-binding cancer antigen, RCAS1,is a nover tumor-associated antigen ,recognized by the study on the human cervical adenocarcinoma cell line(SiSo) in 1996.RCAS1,encode 40kD and 80 kD proteins,is a kind of typeâ…¢membrance protein, expressed in the membrance of Golgi's body.It is not homology with other known proteins. As a ligand,RCAS1 binded with its specific receptor-expressing tumor-infiltration lymphocytes(TILs) and induced the apoptosis of RCAS1 receptor-positive TILs.So tumor cells may evade the host immune surveillance by expressing RCAS1 and inducing the apoptosis of RCAS1 receptor-positive immune lymphocytes.Recently it has been reported that,RCAS1 expressed in many kinds of carcinomas such as tumors of uterus, ovary, cutaneous, pancrea, lung and Hodgkin's lymphoma, and so on. In 2001,Kubokawa firstly reported that RCAS1 expressed in gastric carcinoma, and considered that RCAS1 was asscociated with gastric carcinogenesis and development.Gastric carcinoma was the common malignant tumor, the later its stage, the worse its theapeutic effect and prognosis. We apply the IHC method to dectet the RCAS1expression normal gastric mucosa, atypical hyperplasia, early and advanced gastric carcinoma by immunohistochemistry , and the RT-PCR (reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction,RT-PCR) method to analysis the RCAS1 mRNA in gastric carcinoma and the surrounding side of carcinoma. This research was aimed at investigating the mechanism of RCAS1 action in gastric carcinogenesis and development, evaluating whether RCAS1 might contribute to screening diagnosis and predicting prognosis as a novel marker of gastric carcinoma.
