Part I Microsurgical Anatomy of the Osseous Jugular ForamenObjective: To study the localization , structure ,form and size of the osseous jugularforamen(JF),and the relationship between JF and the adjacent bone structures and to provide theclinical operation with the anatomic knowledge. Methods: The localization, structure, form and size of 40 JF from 20 dry skulls were examinedwith magnification(×3). The distances between JF and the adjacent bone structures weremeasured. Results: The JF located between the petrosal bone and occipital bone and each side had one .The JF was irregularly triangle. The right foramen was larger than the left in 75% intracranially and in 85% extracranially. There were the intrajugular processes of the petrosal and occipital bone in the JF. Osseous bridges in 10% of the JF in the group appeared. The anterolaterior wall of the JF had a pyramidal fossa. The jugular fossa located in posterolateral compartment of the JF. 73.9% of the opening of the condylar canal located at the posteromedial margin of the posterolateral compartment in the JF.The adjacent bone structures: From extracranially, the external os of the carotid canal and the inferior petroclival fissure were anterior to the JF. The styloid process ,the stylomastoid foramen and the papillary process were located lateral to the JF. The external os of the carotid canal ,the styloid process and the papillary process were nearly in a beeline. The external os of...
