BACKGROUNDCyclooxygenase(COXs) are enzymes that are necessary for converting arachidonic acid into prostaglandinH2 . Two types have been described . COX-1 is constitutively expressed in most mammalian cell types, whereas COX-2 is highly inducible by inflammatory stimuli. More recently,several in vitro and preclinical studies showed that COX-2 plays a role in the growth of some certain cancers due to its ability to act as a tumor promoter. Ovarian carcinoma is the third common one of gynecological cancers, which is need to be improved on research urgently. Nowadays, some studies have confirmed an overexpression of COX-2 in ovarian carcinoma. The relationship between COX-2 expression and the growth of ovarian carcinoma is worthy of further study, which will be benefical in the prevention and the treatment of ovarian carcinoma.OBJECTSTo detect the expression of COX-2 in the cells of ovarian carcinoma .
