Glioma, metastasis and abscess are most common diseases with mass effect and ring-like enhancement in the brain. Because of the difference underlying pathological basis, their treatment and surgical intervention are varied subsequently. It is fairly easy to diagnose and differentiate typical glioma from metastasis and abscess with routine diagnostic imaging methods.. However, some grade â…¢-â…£ gilomas, single metastasis and abscess sometimes are easily mistaken and difficult to differentiate because their imaging features are similar to a greater extent and even overlapped each other, which sharing the circular enhancement after contrast enhancement. MR perfusion weighted imaging is recently emerged and belongs to one method of functional MR imaging . Because of the ability to provide the information of capillary vessel distribution and blood flow of lesion, it canbe used to determine hemodynamic parameters between normal tissue and lesion, and demonstrate changes of lesion both in shape and function. MR diffusion weighted imaging canbe used to reflect large molecular in or out cells scattering and the integrity of the membrane .The current study was designed to prospectively analyze the imaging features on conventional , perfusion and diffusion weighted MR imaging in 31 cases with grade â…¢-â…£ gliomas, isolated metastasis and abscess. rCBV and rMTT maps were reconstructed to measure the individual parameters of circular enhancement area, central necrosis area, near-lesion edema and far-lesion edema and contralateral brain parenchyma as control with the technique of ROI. The parameters in three group were compared with each other to determine the role of perfusion weighted imaging in characterizing and differentiating these lesions.Materials and Methods31 patients who have brain lesions manifesting ring-like enhancement on...
