Experimental Study On ICAM-1 Expression And Leukocyte Adhesion In The Retina Of Early Diabetic Rats

Objectives: To observe the expression and distribution of intercelluar adhesion molecule-l (ICAM-1) and the adhesion of leukocyte induced by ICAM-1 in the retina of diabetic rats. We aimed to investigate the effect on the expression of ICAM-1 and the adhesion of leukocyte by Simvastatin and Losartan intervention in early diabetes, and to explore the potential prevention and therapeutic pathogenesis of DR.Methods: Fifty-five healthy adult male Wistar rats were chosen and randomly divided into normal control (n=10) and diabetes mellitus (n=45) groups. Diabetes model was induced by a single 60mg/kg intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin (STZ) in citrate buffer after an overnight fast. Control nondiabetic animals received an equal volume of citrate buffer alone. Animals with blood-fasting glucose levels greater than 16.7mmol/L 72 hours later were deemed diabetic.
