Injections is one of the most important practices in the medical care , but poor injection practices lead to infections with blood borne pathogens. In order to decrease the risk of unsafe injection there has been a great concern on safe injection in China. This research is a part of the program named "Building resilient communities in the face of HIV/AIDS with regional road development in the Greater Mekong Sub-region" supported by the Rockefeller Foundation . To investigate the current status of safe injection in grass-roots health facilities in two townships of Xisuangbanna autonomous regions of Yunnan Province . Use a standardized tool (including self-administered questionnaire) provided by "Safe Injection Global Network" (SIGN) and situation analysis(includmg direct observations) to collect qualitative and semi-quantitative information of the healthcare workers and health facilities. An questionnaire surrey was also conducted on the knowledge, attitude and practices of safe injection about presenters, injection providers, and members of the general population. The results of the survey demonstrate although the disposable syringes replaced the glass syringes and have been used all over the counties but there are many risks of unsafe injections. The main unsafe factors in the practice of injection includes: unable to provide an situation to safety injection, unable to deal with the used syringes safely. The private clinical health workers lack of the knowledge about the safe injection. The important measures to improve injection safety are to supervise the market of disposable syringes and to correctly manage the used disposable syringes. To train the medical staff and the populations on knowledge about safe injection and the risks caused by unsafe injection, and to equip the health facilities with safe tools to destroy the used disposed syringes.
