| The recent study found that the metabolic syndrome (MS) is one of the new risk factors of atherosclerosis (AS). Abnormal metabolism of glucose and lipids are the basic metabolic characters of MS. But the mechanism of these abnormal metabolism and the effect of these changes on MS and AS have not elucidated yet. Our lab has constructed an animal model by feeding rats with high-carbohydrate diet. This animal model showed characters of high fasting blood glucose, high serum total triglyceride(TG) and prothrombotic state. Our lab subtracted the regular diet fed rats liver mRNA from the model rats liver mRNA, and constructed the differentially expressed gene cDNA library. This library was screened, and was found some expressed sequence tags(EST). Nucleic acid sequence homology search was performed against the GenBank DNA database, a new rat gene of homology has been found. We temporarily named the gene as metabolic syndrome relative gene 2(MSRG2) .
