Backgroud: Along with the increased prevalence of antibiotic resistanceand more and more out breake of virus respiratory infection, people are longing for developing the broad-spectrum and effective antimicrobial drugs, antibiotic peptides exactly possess those characteristics. They are one group of small molecule positive polypeptide and play important roles in innate and acquired immunity, resisting various bacteria and virus infection. Antibiotic peptides have broad and potent microbicidal activity which can kill Gram-positive or Gram-negtive bacteria, fungi and enveloped virus under micromole concentration. Until now, three groups of antibiotic peptides are found in human, there are α-,β- and θ-defensin. The β-defensins are producted by skin and epithelial cell and express on the surface of organisms. The family of β-defensin expressed in lung include β-defensin1, 2, 3. They are one important part of the first defensive line against microbes invading. β-defensin-2, 3 can be induced to express in lung by infection to effectively kill the bacteria. In vitro study, the inductors of β-defensin-2, 3 consist of interleukin-1β(IL-1β), IL-8, tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), bacteria, fungi, lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and so on. But these inductors can't be used in human body, because of...
