AIMS: To analyze the causes of upper gastrointestinal bleeding and to predict UGI bleeding in patients with liver cirrhosis in clinical routine. METHODS: 163 patients with liver cirrhosis were divided into the following two groups: the bleeding group and the non-bleeding group , meanwhile, the bleeding group matched to the non-bleeding group in age, gender and liver function. The control group consisted of 60 healthy subjects, matched to the cirrhosis groups in age and gender. All patients underwent endoscopy and color Doppler ultrasonography examination. Endoscopy were not examinated in the contral group. Coagulation functions(PI,APTT, TT, FIB), TBIL, ALB, TBA and PLT parameters were detected in all subjects. The part of patients underwent CT examination to exclude the hepatocellular carcinoma and the digestive neoplasm.RESULTS:UGI bleeding in patients with liver cirrhosis occurred frequently in spring and winter(81%) (a period of Feb to Apr and Nov to Dec),and rarely in other seasons.VB was the primary reason for UGB in cirrhosis patients (71.9%). The incidence of NVB was 28.1% in the bleeding group, and the reasons for NVB were PHG and PU. VB was closely related to the red color signs(RC) and the degree of varices (F). NVB was correlated with old age , low lever of PLT and PHG. In the cirrhosis groups (the bleeding...
