Objective To study the prognostic factors that effect the survival rate of stage II CRC petients after radical resection. Methods 159 cases of stage II CRC were collected in this study. The clino-pathological date and 5-year follow-up data were reviewed. Streptavidin-peroxidase immunohistochemical technique was used to detect the expression of P53,cerbB-2,VEGF,CD44 on formal in-fixed, paraffin embedded sections of CRC from the 159 patients. Results The rates of positive expression of P53,cerbB-2,VEGF and CD44 were 58.5% (93/159) ,26.4% (42/159), 57.9% (92/159) and 40.0% (54/159) respectively in the CRC tissue. All clino-pathological variables and biological markers were analyzed with regression model (a=0.05). six distinguished prognostic factors were identified in the univariate analysis as : tumor size, depth of invasion, number of desected lymph nodes, invas ion of local organs, nerve infiltration and ileus. The results of multivariate analysis indicated that the independent prognostic factors were tumor size, depth of invasion, numberof desected lymph nodes and ileus, and their relative risk were 0.22,4.62,4.20 and 8.62, respectively. A prognostic model : h (t,= h0(t) exp (-1.4980 X6+ 1.4356 X11+1.5294 X9+2.1543 X15)was established. When the prognostic index ≥ 0.7457, the prognosis of patients is bad. when the prognostic index <0. 7457, the prognosis is good. Conclusion Tumor size, depth of invasion, number of lymph nodes and ileus seemed to be independent and important prognostic factors. This model could be used to evaluate the prognosis of patients with stage II CRC after radical resection by clinicians.
