Aim:The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of the three thermal gutta-percha canal obturation techniques as compared with cold lateral condensation(CLC) technique. The three thermal gutta-percha canal obturation techniques involved in our study were warm vertical condensation(WVC), Obtura â…¡ and ultrasonic lateral condensation(ULC). In the present study, the density of the gutta-percha which was called the percentage of gutta-percha-filled area( PGFA) at different position of root, and the coronal microleakage of root filling were evaluated. Methods:Eighty freshly extracted human single root teeth were selected in our study. The coronal part of each tooth was removed and the root canals were prepared by means of crown down preparation combined with step-back technique. The master apical file (MAF) was 25# file. The specimens were randomly divided into four groups of 20 samples each. One group was obturated by CLC technique as control and the remaining groups were respectively obturated by WVC,Obtura â…¡ and ULC techniques.PGFA experiment: 10 canals drawn randomly from each group weresectioned horizontally at the midpoint of the apical third, middle third and coronal third respectively. The cross-sections were photographed through a Nikon ME600 industrial microscope, the photos were analyzed with Image-Pro Plus 4.0 software, then the amount of area of the canal and area...
