Background: Candida is an opportunistically pathogenic fungus. These years, infections caused by candida such as candida albicans are on the rise, owing to clinical immunosuppressive therapies and the massive and abusive usage of broad-spectrum antibiotics, as well as the increase in AIDS patients. Researches showed that many oral mucosal diseases are related to candidal infections, for example, candidal stomatitis, oral lichen planus (OLP), leukoplakia, etc. Recently, amphotericin B and 5-fluorocytosine (5-FC) are often used to treat candidal infections. However, such medicines cause numerous virulent and side effects. The debut of azole, especially triazoles, represented by fluconazole, has brought about new hopes for curing candidiasis. But, on the other hand, the drug resistance of candida has become ever more severe, which greatly jeopardizes the clinical treatment of candidal infections. Therefore, studies to solve the drug resistance of candida have turned into a most challenging subject in clinical prevention and treatment of candidiasis. This poses great significance for the development of new anti-candida drugs, the rational guidance to clinical drug use, the monitoring of Bacteria strain, and the prevention and cure of Oral Candidiasis. Objective: To investigate the interaction amoung Terbinafine with Fluconazole, Nystatine or Itraconazole against Candida albicans. Methods: The minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC) of 38 clinical isolates of Candida albicans from genital locus was determined by broth microdilution method recommended by NCCLS. A checkerboard micro -dilution method was used to study the in vitro interaction of Terbinafinewith Fluconazole, Nystatine or Itraconazole. Results: The incidence of Candida albicans resistant isolates were 4 (Fluconazole), 5 (Itraconazole) and 15 (Terbinafine). The MIC value of Nystatine is stable. The geometric mean MIC of Terbinafine combinated with Fluconazole was significantly lower than that of the single agent. 15 cases were synergy,20 cases were additive and 5 cases were indifferent. Antagonism was not observed in any drug combination.Conclusions:1) Niinety-seven percent Candida albicans infection were observed from the sample taking from the patients of oral Candida albicans.2) The effective ratio of Terbinafine against Candida albicans was 60.49%.3) The effective ratio of Fluconazole was 89.47%; and the effective ratio of Itraconazole was 86.84%.4) There are cross resistant phonoment between Fluconazole and Itraconazole. The MIC value of Nystatine is stable, It is the most recommendable medicine against Candida albicans.5) The combination of Terbinafine and Fluconazole can produce synergy and addition effect against Candida albicans.
