Since Heald et al suggested that total mesorectal excision (TME) may reduce the local recurrance rate following resection of the rectum. The rationale has been proved repeatedly and now it has been accepted as a golden standard technical rule for surgical resection of the rectum. Nevertheless we have to realize that the TME is not the only determinant in local recurrence, both the grade and staging may also influence the outcome. Because of how to reduce its occurrence was one of the subject for concern, all the surgery should master the principle of TME well. Here we report an outcome of a retrospective study in 96 cases of rectal cancer treated by surgical resection with TME technique. Objective:To evaluate the effect of radical surgery with TME for the treatment of rectal carcinoma.Methods:96 patients underwent radical resection with TME form july, 2002 to july, 2006 were analyzed and followed up for 1-46 months. Results: In these 96 cases, 81 cases underwent anterior resection, 15 cases ultra-low anterior resection. During the postoperative follow-up period, 1 case local recurrence occurred, 1 case was death. 4 cases occurred anastomose leakage. Conclusion: TME is an effective measure for the treatment of rectal carcinoma. |
