A Study Of The Relationship Between Serum Thyroxine And Female Schizophrenia

Object i ve the aim of this study is to study changes of serum thyroxinelevel in female schizophrenia and its relationship to clinical characteristics . and to study the relationship between Serum and psychopathology, and in order to know the effection on the FT₃,F T4,TSH levels with the antiphychiatric medicine of risperidone and Aripiprazole .Method the patients were randomly divided into two groups risperidone andAripiprazole. Serum FT₃ (Free triiodothyronine),FT₄ (Free thyroxine), TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone) were tested in 67 female patients who fited for CCMD-III and ICD-10 diagnosis of schizophrenia before and after treatment respectively, and compared with 30 control subjects meanwhilePANSS,CGI,TESS and scales were monitored . Results Serum FT₃,FT4 levels in patient group before treatment were higher than control subjects and decreased after treatment ,but serum TSH is lower than that in control subject before and after treatment. In addition, there was positive correlation between the PANSS scores and serum FT4 scores after treatment(P<0.01). there was positive correlation between the P scores and serum FT4 scores before treatment(P<0.05),and there was negative correlation between the TSH scores and serum P scores before treatment(P <0.05). there was positive correlation between the course of disease and FT₃ level before treatment.Conclusion the findings suggest that there have endocrine confused in schizophrenia patients. The changes of serum FT₃,FT₄ level in schizophrenia patients may be related to illness itself ,serum FT₃,FT₄ level seems to be as predictor for severity of schizophrenia and were effected by many factors .
