Objective: To investigate the effects of contrast material Gadolinium diethylenetriamine pentaacetic acid (Gd-DTPA) on single voxel proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy in brain tumor by detecting peak height, peak area and width at half maximum of N-acetylaspartate(NAA), creatine(Cr), and choline(Cho), analyze difference of magnetic resonance spectroscopy imaging and metabolite values pre-and post-contrast.Method: First, we selected 29 patients with brain tumor verified by surgical biopsy(gliomas, n=11; meningioma, n=18), all person scanned by MR plain, including 3D localization, axial T1WI,T2WI;fast spin echo sequence(FSE), fluid attenuated inversion recovery(FLAIR)imaging and sagittal scan. The voxel position was chosen with T1 weighed axial fast spin echo and FLAIR imagings and 1H-MRS was underwent. Then Gd-DTPA was used in all studies and was injected as a normal bolus dose via ulnar vein. The 1H-MRS was scanned again in the same scan and regions of interest(ROI) , The spectra was obtained 10 minutes after contrast administration. Last, we used GE Functool software to analyze all results, detected peak height, peak area, width at half maximum of major metabolites as N-acetylaspartate(NAA), creatine(Cr), and choline(Cho) pre-and post-contrast. The values were compared. Significance was assumed if P <0. 05Results: there was no obvious change in peak height, peak area, and width at half maximum of metabolites we detected between pre-contrast and post-contrast. No significant diffefence was found in statistics. ( P>0. 05).Conclusion: contrast material Gd-DTPA did not alter the diagnostic quality of MR spectroscopy studies in our patients with brain tumors. Our findings were supported by results obtained from our study. Enhancement was useful for choosing the position of volume. it can improve the diagnosis of 1H-MRS. 1H-MRS associated with enhancement profit to diagnose and differential diagnose the brain tumor.
