Objective: We observed the clinical effect of Bupiyichang decoction to mice model of chronic ulcerative colitis and evaluated objectively the validity of Bupiyichang decoction in treating CUC, so that we discussed the mechanism in order to provide experimental evidence for that TCM treats of UC and search an effectual method of TCM in treating chronic ulcerative colitis.Method: To divide randomly 100 mice into 5 groups: the normal control group, the model group, the high-dose Bupiyichang decoction, the low-dose Bupiyichang decoction and the SASP group (each n=20). The mice model of CUC were established by drinking freely DSS and treated for 10 days. We observed the change of weight, stool and hidden blood of mice, calculated the amount and proportion of ulcer, and evaluated the disease activity index. At last we measured the level of blood TNF-αand analyzed what can the recipe do to TNF-α. According to the observed results, we evaluated the treatment effectiveness.Result: The weight in three groups of Bupiyichang decoction and SASP group was obviously higher than that in the model group (p<0.01). The disease activity index and level of TNF-αin three groups of Bupiyichang decoction and SASP group were significantly lower than those in the model group (p<0.05 or p<0.01). The inflammatory saturation degree in three groups of Bupiyichang decoction and SASP group has decreased significantly than that in the model group. Conclusion: The total treatment effect of the high-dose Bypiyichang decoction group is similar to that of the SASP group. The recipe can improve the symptoms, and reduce the ulcerative and inflammatory degree and decrease the amount of TNF-α.
