Objective To study the expression and significance and their relation of c-Met and tissue inhibitor ofmetalloproteinase2(TIMP2) in patients with cervical carcinoma and to investigate the relation of theirlevels with clinical stage, lymph node metastasis and pathologic grade of cervical carcinoma.Method Using s-p immunohistochemistry method, the expression of c-Met and TIMP2 in thespecimens of 48 cases with cervical Carcinoma(including 39 cervical squamous cell carcinomas and 9cervical adencarcinomas), 13 cases with cervical intraepithelial neoplasia(ClN) and 15 cases withnormal cervical epithelium was examined.Result The c-Met positive rates in patients with CIN are significantly higher than in cases withnormal cervices and remarkably lower than in patients with cervical carcinoma(p<0.01). The TIMP2positive rates in patients with CIN are higher than in cases with normal cervices and with cervicalcarcinoma, but there is no statistical difference(p>0.05).The expression of c-Met and TIMP2 is notrelated to different cervical histological types(p>0.05). In cases with FIGO stagingⅢ+Ⅳand lymphnode metastasis, the expression of c-Met is significantly higher than that in those with FIGO stagingⅠ+Ⅱand without lymph node metastasis(p<0.05), whereas the expression of TIMP2 decreasessignificantly with the rise clinical stage and lymph node metastasis(p<0.01), and both have no relevantto distinct pathologic grade(p>0.05).There is a negative correlation between the expression of c-Metand TIMP2 (p<0.05),but their correlativity is not very close. Conclusion c-Met plays an important role in the generation, progress and metastasis of cervicalcarcinoma, The TIMP2 expression may be an early event in malignant transformation of cervicalcarcinoma, the overexpression of TIMP2 can inhibit the invasion and metastasis of carcinoma cell; The expression of c-Met is negative related to TIMP2 in cervical carcinoma. The overexpressionof c-Met and underexpression of TIMP2 in carcinoma tissue is easy to invade and metastasize,Thec-met and TIMP expressions might act as an index to indicate the process of invasion, metastasisand prognosis in patients with cervical carcinoma.
