Objiective This study was aimed to explore the expression of BMP-4 (bone morphogenetic protein 4) in different secreting pituitary adenomas, To investigate the effectiveness of BMP-4 in the pathogenesis mechanisms and development of pituitary prolactinom,and offers theoretical and experimental evidence for studying pituitary prolactinom.Methods The protein expression of BMP-4 were examined by immunohisto- chemical SABC method in 15 pituitary prolactinom,8 GH-secreting pituitary adenoma,5 TSH-secreting pituitary adenoma,13 ACTH-secreting pituitary adenoma,10 gonadotropinomas and 11 normal pituitary . The multifunction true chromatic colour pathological analytical system(provided by The Aviation Spaceflight University Picture Pattern Centre in Bei Jing )was used to evaluate the expression levels of the BMP4.Results All the tissue samples including 15 pituitary prolactinom,8 GH-secreting pituitary adenoma,5 TSH-secreting pituitary adenoma,13 ACTH-secreting pituitary adenoma,10 gonadotropinomas and 11 normal pituitary have the expression of BMP-4.Compared with other secreting pituitary adenomas ,the expression level of BMP-4 is obviously higher in pituitary prolactinom (P<0.05).And the expression level of BMP4 in ACTH-secreting pituitary adenomas is markedly lower than other secreting pituitary adenomas and normal pituitary.However, the difference expression of BMP-4 during GH-secreting pituitary adenoma,TSH-secreting pituitary adenoma,gonadotropinomas and normal pituitary have not significant.Conclusions (1) The expression of BMP-4 in pituitary prolactinom is much higher than other secreting pituitary adenomas and the nonnal pituitary, BMP-4 may play a certain role in the occurrence and development of pituitary prolactinom,it has the significance to evaluate the biological behavior of pituitary prolactinom and provid objective references for the clinical work such as selecting treatment plan,judging prognosis and evaluating curative effectiveness .(2) The expression of BMP-4 in ACTH-secreting pituitary adenoma is obviously decreased , it may contribute to the inhibit effectiveness in corticotroph adenoma.(3) Compared with normal pituitary, the expression of BMP-4 in GH-secreting pituitary adenoma,TSH-secreting pituitary adenoma,gonadotropinomas have not significant difference.
