Objective Evaluate cerebral protection of Edaravone by detecting the score of behavioral disturbance,the value of plasma PA concentration and the brain tissue moisture capacity.Methods Cerebral thrombosis rats model were produced through injecting thrombin into the internal carotid artery by introducing a catheter.60 Wistar rats were divided into 5 groups randomly(normal control group,sham operation group,cerebral ischemia group, Edaravone-ischemia group andsaline-ischemia group respectively),each has 12 rats.Observe the changes of behavioral disturbance,the value of plasma PA concentration and brain tissue moisture capacity of the rats in each group.Results In the normal control group,the rats had no behavioral disturbance,the value of PA was 3.11±0.60μmol/L and the brain tissue moisture capacity was 75.87±1.47(%).In sham operation group,the rats also had no behavioral disturbance,the value of PA was 3.41±0.56 mol/L and the brain tissue moisture capacity was 76.33±1.60(%).There were no significant differences between the two groups.But in cerebral ischemia group,the score of behavioral disturbance is significant(9.00±1.54),the value of PA was higher(10.51±0.98μmol/L),and the brain tissue moisture capacity increased(76.33±1.60(%))than the normal control group. In the Edaravone-ischemia group,the score of behavioral disturbance was 6.33±1.30,the value of PA was 5.92±0.52μmol/L and the brain tissue moisture capacity was 79.37±1.61 (%).In the saline-ischemia group,the score of behavioral disturbance was 8.75±1.22,the value of PAwas 10.86±0.92μmol/L and the brain tissue moisture capacity was 82.82±2.99 (%).There were significant differences among normal the control group,the Edaravone -ischemia group and the saline-ischemia group.It indicates that Edaravone can partly decrease the score of behavioral disturbance,the value of PA and the brain tissue moisture capacity.Conclusions It indicates that experimental rats models with cerebral thrombosis in our experiment were successful from the score of behavioral disturbance,the value of PA and the brain tissue moisture capacity.By instilling Edaravone into the stomach of the rats before the surgery,the score of behavioral disturbance,the value of PA and the brain tissue moisture capacity were decreased.We concluded that Edaravone as a neuroprotective agent is effective in the treatment of cerebral thrombosis.
