Clinical Study Of Brachytherapy With Iodine-125 For Gliomas

To study the clinical efficacy of brachytherapy with Iodine-125 for gliomas. Compared with general radiotherapy and balloon brachytherapy, to select the best therapy combined with gliomas class, the ages. and systemic conditions of the patients.From October 2005 to April 2007, 11 patients were treated by the implantation of ¹²⁵â… radionuclide when they were operated. The matching dosage was 90-110gy, the dosage of every particle is 0.7mCi, and every patient is administrated 8-10 particles. The pathological report after operation indicated that 4 patients were glioma WHOâ…¡-â…¢and 7 were glioma WHOâ…¢-â…£.5-7 day after operation the skull CT discovered that brain tissues were swell obviouslybut the shifting of the median line structure and the particles were not seen. 1 month after operation, the skull CT indicated that the brain tissues were swelling slightly in 8 patients, the other 3 patients whose brain tissues were obviously swelling had been treated respondently. 3 months after surgery, no signs of recurrence were found in all cases. 6 months after surgery, no signs of recurrence were found in all cases. 7 month after the surgery, 1 patient were found recurrented, 9 month after the surgery, 2 patients were found recurrented, and got advanced treatment. 12 months after surgery, there were not signs of recurrencein the skull CT in the other cases. Over one year, 9 cases survived, the survival rate of one year was 81.8 percent. The Karnofsky sores of the survivals were 70 which were higher than the scores before surgery. Symptoms like headache, hemipalysis, conscious disturbance etc got improvement. 4 cases had slight complications which were swelling of brain tissues, drop of sight, etc.The present therapy of gliomas is combined therapy which is included surgical resection, radiotherapy and chemotherapy. The majority of patients recurred after surgery or radiotherapy because glomas has the character of infiltrative growth. Once recurring, the therapy is limited and the therapeutic effect is not satisfied. The technology of the implanting of ¹²⁵â… radionuclide has broad indications and has the fortes of safety and utility because it introduces the more advanced technique. It brings a new method for the treatment of the gliomas. It can replace the traditional general radiotherapy and aid the effect of surgery. The therapy is still a general procedure because glioma has a lot of restriction in pathology.
