Object: Through comparing with the expressions of the plasma and the tissues levels of adiponectin respectively in colon carcinoma sections and healthy controls, to discuss the relationship between adiponectin and colon carcinoma. Methods: Fresh plasma levels of adiponectin were also determined in 68 patients with colon carcinoma and 50 healthy controls using an ELISA. Then, Pathological and incisal margin (normal) tissues levels of adiponectin were respectively determined in 56 patients with post operation of colon carcinoma using immunohistochemistry SABC. Comparing with Pathological and incisal margin (normal) tissues and plasma levels of adiponectin in colon carcinoma patients and healthy sections, statistical analysis was made according to the degree of histological differentiation. Results: The plasma levels of adiponectin was significantly lower in 68 cases than 50 healthy controls, and the concentration respectively are 6.18±1.74μg/mL in case teams and 9.80±2.07μg/mL(P < 0.01) in healty sections. Moreover, the reducing plasma levels of adiponectin were positively related to the degree of tumor differentiation(low differentiation :4.56±0.82μg/mL; medium differentiation : 6.21±1.60μg/mL; high differentiation: 7.82±1.38μg/mL; P < 0.01). On 30 in 56(about 53.6%) colon carcinoma tissues ,the expressions of adiponectin is positive, and in incisal margin (normal) controls is 85.7%. Also, The tissues levels of adiponectin was lower in colon carcinoma tissues than normal(P < 0.01),and there is no difference between the expressions of adiponectin and the differentiation degree in case sections. Conclusion: Lower plasma and (or) tissues levels of adiponectin are associated closely with colon carcinogenesis, and the plasma levels of adiponectin were positively related to the degree of tumor differentiation. We can presume that adiponectin play a vital role in the process of colon carcinogenesis. Detecting adiponectin may be a effective tool in the early diagnosis and prevent of colon carcinoma , and also help to evaluate the curative effect of post operation. Thus, there is a wide prospect of adiponectin applying in clinical with other means for colon carcinoma.
