Objective: To investigate the proportion of diabetic foot in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), and to analyze the risk factors for diabetic foot. Methods: 627 endocrine unit inpatients with T2DM in the first hospital affiliated to Xinjiang medical university from February, 2006 to February, 2007 were interviewed, which included two parts: 103 cases with diabetic foot and 524 cases with T2DM but without diabetic foot. All the probable risk factors were collected, including sex, nation, age, year, body mass index (BMI), blood pressure(BP: SBP/DBP), the duration of hypertension and smoking, fasting blood glucose(FPG), 2 hours postprandial blood glucose(2hPG), glycated hemoglobin A1C(HbA1C), total cholesterol(TC), triglyceride(TG), high density lipoprotein- cholesterol (HDL-C), low density lipoprotein- cholesterol(LDL-C), serum creatinine(Scr), blood urea nitrogen(BUN), urine acid, total protein, albumin, urine protein including urine albumin excretion rate(UAE) and quantization of urine protein in 24 hours, diabetic nephropathy, diabetic retinopathy, history of cerebral vascular disease and coronary heart disease. The measurement data were analyzed by T-test and the count data were analyzed by Chi-square test, then the data with difference were analyzed by Logistic regression. And SPSS14.0 was used to do all of the analysis. Results: This investigation showed the proportion of diabetic foot in patients with T2DM was 19.6%, and in Vygurs, it was 25.97%. The occurrence of diabetic foot was correlated with nation, age, year, SBP, 2hPG, HbA1C, Scr, BUN, total protein, albumin, urine protein, diabetic nephropathy, diabetic retinopathy, history of coronary heart disease(P<0.05). However, Logistic regression analysis showed that the occurrence of diabetic foot was significantly correlated with years of T2DM, albumin and diabetic nephropathy (P<0.05). Conclusion: albumin, years of T2DM and diabetic nephropathy are the independent risk factors for diabetic foot This investigation also showed that the blood glucose control of Vygurs was worse, and the proportion of diabetic foot in Vygurs was much higher.
