ObjectiveTo investigate the ototoxicity of cisplatin using distortion product otoacoustic emissions (DPOAE) and conventional pure tone audiometry, to reveal the audiological impaired features and developing tendency of ototoxicity induced by cisplatin, to observe the influence of aging on the ototoxicity of cisplatin, to study the clinical applied worth of DPOAE to monitor the ototoxicity of cisplatin and to search for the rational monitoring devices, for expecting to discover the ototoxicity as early as possible and then to take homologous protective measures to improve patients, quality of life.MethodDPOAE and conventional pure tone audiometry were used in 46 cancer patients (82 ears) accord with conditions before and ten days after the cisplatin administration in operation or via vein. The measurements were analyzed with statistics, to overview audiological changes after chemotherapy and influence on DPOAE in age. ResultAfter the cisplatin administration, the conventional pure tone hearing thresholds did not have obvious changes through matched t-test; DPOAE amplitudes at frequency from 3 to 4 kHz area declined after the first venous chemotherapy through matched t-test.Divide subjects into three groups according to age: group A(30~39 years old), group B(40~49 years old), group C(50~59years old). In the same age group, DPOAE amplitudes declined at frequency from 3 to 4 kHz area in group B and declined at frequency from 3 to 6 kHz area in group C after the first venous chemotherapy through matched t-test. When compared to emissions among different segments of age, there was significant difference in DPOAE amplitudes at 3 kHz frequency through analysis of variance.Conclusion1.In early period of cisplatin administration, DPOAE amplitudes in high frequency area decline, before conventional pure tone hearing thresholds change and clinical symptoms appear.2. The susceptibility to cisplatin maybe increase gradually following with the increases of ages.3. DPOAE could be the reliable means to monitor early cisplatin-ototoxicity .4. DPOAE could offer information about early discovery and prevention of ototoxicity induced by cisplatin.
