Objective:To evaluate the effect of body mass index and waist circumference on the metabolic syndrome risk factors.Method:Based on the IDF consensus worldwide definition of the metabolic syndrome,subjects of 3448 Uigurs fi'om Urmuqi city and Kashgar region.To study the effect of body mass index and waist circumference on the metabolic syndrome risk factors,men and women,respectively.Result:1)Waist circumference has statistics meaning to blood pressure,TG,HDL and FPG in the man and women(P<0.05).2)Body mass index has no statistics meaning to blood pressure, TG,HDL and FPG in the man and woman(P>0.05).3)Both man and women,when waist circumference surpass(≥90cm for men,≥80cm for women),the risk of raised blood pressure and.raised fasting plasma glucose(FPG)increase.Conclusion:It is possible that waist circumference is one of the metabolic syndrome risk factors in Xinjiang Uygur.
