Objective:To analyze the disparation of rhBMP-2 compounds versus autograft on the rates of fusion after spinal fusion. Methods:we searched the specialized trials registere in Cochrane muscle bone group,Cochraneliabrary(CCTR),MEDLINE(1966-2006),EMBASE(1980-2006),PUBMED(1966-2006),NRR(http://www.update-software. com/National),CCT(http://www.controlled-trials.com),andCBMdisc(1979-July2006),and we handsearched some Chinese orthoopaedics Journals.Data were extracted and evaluated by two reviewers independently of each other.Randomized controlled trials of rhBMP-2 compounds versus autograft for spinal fusion were included. The quality of trials was critical assessed.RevMan 4.2.9 software was used for data analysis.Result: Four RCTS of rhBMP-2 compounds versus autograft for spinal fusion were included. Four studies including a total of 364 patients met the inclusion criteria for the review. The results of meta-analysis showed that rhBMP-2 compounds for spinal fusion increased the rates of fusion after 6 month[OR=3.68,95%CI(1.51,9.02),p=0.004],and after 12 month to 24 month, the bone graft fusion rates were much higher than autograft[OR=4.59,95%CI(1:74,12.14),p=0.002],and[OR=4.25,95%CI(1.93, 9.39),p=0.0003].Conclusion:compared with autograft for spinal fusion,rhBMP-2 compounds increased the rates of spinal fusion in the near future, and the long-term indication was better. The security and availability of rhBMP-2 compounds to spinal fusion were demonstrated, then rhBMP-2 compounds as the substitute of autograft will be important, however, because the systematic review included few patients, further studies are needed to determine the effects of rhBMP-2 compounds and autograft on these outcomes.
