Nursing Students' Educational Resilience And The Relationship With Professional Commitment

The nursing professional commitment is a nursing personnel's (including the nursing students and incumbency nurse) will and activity that they show their acceptance to nursing job, and would like to devote their entire life to promote the nursing business and the whole mankind's health. At present,"three highs and three lows" are very common in nursing profession, they are high pay, high responsibility, high risk, but slow development, low achievement and low social status."Three highs and three lows"have put nursing profession in an embarrassed situation, affected the nursing profession majored students'professional approbation negatively, influenced their professional study and daily life, and then influenced the quality and stability of nursing personnel. It's necessary to improve the nursing personnel's professional commitment. Some researchers have studied the professional commitment from the nursing personnel's age, personality characteristic, family background, socioeconomic status, role feeling and his/her motion of choosing this profession. As to this article, the author wants to provide a speculation with stronger operability to the nursing educator and the researcher from the angle of positive psychology and educational resilience.This research takes cross-sectional investigation method, drawing samples randomly from the nursing professional students in the health school and medical college in Sichuan Province. Research tools include three questionnaires, they are "personal basic information ", revised "Educational resilience scales " and " Professional commitment scales ". A total of 840 copies of questionnaires were distributed. 784 copies were effectively returned with effective return rate of 93.3%. All data have been analyzed by use of SPSS for windows 11.5 and LISREL8.53. The research shows as below:( I ) The revised "Educational resilience scale " constitutes of eight dimensionalities, they are Social acceptance, Self-efficacy, Family support, Relationship with teachers, Self-confidence, Optimism for the future, School approbation and Companion relationship. The scale can be used for high school students and college students, because they have good reliability and validity.(II) Totally, educational resilience of the nursing personnel is upper second. As to the scores of concrete dimensionality, Family support, Companion relationship and Social acceptance are first three, while the Relationship with teachers, Self-efficacy and School approbation are the last three. From the personal characteristic, the difference of educational resilience between male and female is not so distinct, only Companion relationship shows a significant difference. The same as to School approbation and Companion relation of students who are from different places. Students at different stages (technical secondary school students, vocational secondary school students and undergraduates) also have obvious difference in Self-efficacy, Family support, Relationship with teachers, Self-confidence, Optimism, Educational resilience score. Lastly, whether acquiring scholarship or not, dissimilarity of nursing role feeling and different attribution to choosing this profession are also obviously different in the dimensionality of educational resilience and total score.(III)The nursing students exhibited a medium-high degree of professional commitment. As to the concrete dimensionality, the nursing professional career evaluation gets the highest score, and the value approbation, the will of choosing this profession, the diligent will secondly. So the professional commitment level, particularly, the nursing professional diligent will needs to be raised currently. From the personal characteristic, the sex, test scores, dissimilarity of nursing role feeling and different attribution to choosing this profession show great difference in each dimensionality of professional commitment and the scores. The diligent will and professional commitment scores show great difference in the students from different places, too. Lastly, the diligent will, career evaluation, value-recognition and commitment scores are obvious different to different students at different stage.(IV)Dimensionality of educational resilience and professional commitment have close relationship, Stepwise -regression analysis indicates that the five dimensionalities of educational resilience (Relationship with teachers, School approbation, Optimism, Companion relation and Self-confidence)can predict the professional commitment, and the predication has 33.7% variation to diligent will, 16.3% variation to career evaluation, 22.7% variation to value approve, 21.5% variation of choosing will. The fitting index of structural equation model which bases on the Stepwise -regression analysis validates the assumption of this research at the largest extent.
