Objective: To obtain an objective evaluation of the optical quality of different types of aspherical IOLs, we compared the best corrected visual acuity(BCVA), contrast sensitivity and higher-order wavefront aberration in 60 pseudophakic eyes implanted with three different types of aspherical IOLs(Canon Staar KS-3Ai, AMO Tecnis ZA9003,and Alcon SN60WF) .Methods: 60 patients(60 eyes) with age-related cataract were selected randomly from January 2007 to June 2007 ,we divided them into three groups randomly ,every 20 eyes in each group, to accept phacoemulsification and implant IOLs of Canon Staar KS-3Ai, AMO Tecnis ZA9003 and Alcon SN60WF respectively. One day before operation ,the spherical aberration of cornea were examined and examinations of the BCVA, contrast sensitivity and higher-order wavefront aberrations were carried out at 2 months after cataract surgery. Results: There were no significant difference on BCVA of the three types of aspherical IOLs . Contrast sensitivity under the nighttime (at 3.0c/d,6.0c/d, 12c/d), nighttime with periglare (at 1.5c/d,3.0c/d,6.0c/d), daytime (at 3.0c/d,6.0c/d) and daytime with periglare (at 1.5c/d,6.0c/d) conditions were significantly better in eyes implanted with Alcon SN60WF than with Canon Staar KS-3Ai and AMO Tecnis ZA9003﹙P<0.05﹚. For a 5.0mm pupil, the Spherical Aberration, RMS5 and RMS6 in eyes implanted with the Alcon SN60WF showed significant difference﹙ P < 0.05﹚ ,the postoperative aberration with the Alcon SN60WF was approximately 0.08μm ,and the other two groups were approximately 0. In the examination of Coma, Trefoil, RMS3, RMS4 and RMSh ,there were no significant difference between three groups﹙P﹥0.05﹚Conclusion: 1.Targeting a postoperative spherical aberration of 0.08μm for patients, can get a better quality vision. 2.In the near future ,it is a tendency for cataract surgeons to use wavefront technology to customize cataract surgery ,to bring a clearer and sharper vision for the cataract patients.
