ObjectiveTo identify the factors influencing the quality of life of stroke patients in the community.MethodsA total of 304 stroke patients living in the community were selected according to inclusion criteria, and they were randomly divided into the control group(n=153) and the rehabilitation group(n=151).All the patients were prospectively followed-up for 5 months. The patients of rehabilitation group were treated with regular following-up and correlated functional assessment(including NIM,FCA,ADL,and QOL) and systematized community-based rehabilitation(CBR),while the control group only were treated with homochronous following-up and correlated functional assessment, but no rehabilitation. The chinese version of WHOQOL-BREF was used to rate the QOL.The improvement of QOL(denoted with difference between the initial WHOQOL-BREF scores and its 5 months later) was the observational ending point(independent variable) for all the patients, and it was apply to assess their QOL.All possible related factors influencing the QOL in the study were dependent variables.Single factor analysis and multielement stepwise regression analysis was used to identify the main related factors influencing the QOL of stroke patients.Results20 of all patients have died, and 2 have missed followed-up during the study.282 of all patients have integrated data in the end(The number of control group are 138,and the number of rehabilitation group are 144).There was not statistical difference in the common information between the 2 groups(all P>0.05).The related factors of QOL of stroke patients included their initial condition, age, course of disease, stroke category, occupation, labour intensity, diseased region, smoking, drinking, high fat diet, hypertension, the initial NIM scores, the initial BI scores, the initial FCA scores, and the initial WHOQOL-BREF scores by single factor analysis at P≤0.4 level.15 related factors of QOL above-mentioned were considered as independent variables, and the improvement of QOL was considered as dependent variable.8 related factors of QOL of the stroke patients were their initial condition, age, course of disease, the initial WHOQOL-BREF scores, the initial FCA scores, hypertension, smoking, and high fat diet, which have been identified by more multielement stepwise regression analysis.ConclusionThe QOL of stroke patients was related with their initial condition, age, course of disease, the initial WHOQOL-BREF scores, the initial FCA scores, hypertension, smoking, and high fat diet.Earlier systematized community-based rehabilitation can improve the QOL for stroke patients living in the community, and normal blood pressure, smoke abatement, diet with low salt and low fat were beneficial to their function recovery.
