Purpose:The aim of the study was to contrast the parameters of Doppler ultrasonography with in cirrhotic patients with portal hypertension. To evaluate the degree of cirrhosis in clinic, and to afford suggestions in preventing complications. Method:One hundred and ten consecutive cirrhotic patients with portal hypertension underwent upper endoscopy are divided into three groups:mild\moderate\severe, according to the extent of esophageal varices.Detect diameter of portal vein and splenic vein, the thickness and length of spleen.Investigate the relationship between these parameters and the degrees of esophageal varices. Results:The thickness and length of spleen has significant differences in the different degrees of esophageal varices(p<0.01). The diameter of splenic vein has correlated positively with the diameter of portal vein and the diameter of splenic vein, the thickness and length of spleen also has correlation(p<0.05).Conclusion:The thickness and length of spleen can provide valuable suggestions in predicting the degrees of esophageal varices. These parameters suggest the degrees of portal vein varices, when taken in concert with the endoscopic findings.
