Objective To survey the current situation of loneliness and to explore the relative factors of loneliness in schizophrenia patients.Methods The study was carried out with a total of 182 schizophrenia patients.These patients were selected at the department of psychiatry in the First affiliated hospital of Kunming medical college (including 45 patients)and the Psychiatric hospital of Kunming(including 137 patients).The current situation of loneliness in 182 patients were assessed by using Emotionnal versus Social Loneliness Scale,and the relative factors of loneliness were evaluated by using a self-made questionnaire,Social Anxiety Subscale of the self-Consciousness Scale,Hamilton rating Scale for depression,Eysenck Personality Questionnaire,Self-esteem Scale and Social support Scale.Statistical analysis was done using the SPSS11.0,t-test,Variance analysis,Chi-square-test,Pearson correlation and Step-wise regression were performed to compare the relevant variables.Results 1.The results showed that the patient with low score was 6.04%,with middle score was 71.42% and with high score was 17.03%in emotional loneliness scale;whereas in social loneliness scale,the patient with low,middle and high score were 14.28%,68.68%and 17.03% respectively.2.In two dimensions of loneliness,there were different in gender,marriage condition,hospitalization environment,whether or not public medical care,family economic status,hospitalization frequency,incidence of disease,Which were positively correlated to the course of disease of patients.Emotional experience and discriminated state of patients were different in varied degree loneliness groups.3.Two dimensions of loneliness in schizophrenia patients were significantly negatively correlated to self-esteem score,social support score, positively correlated to social anxiety score,and were negatively correlated to E dimensions in personality,however,positively correlated to N dimensions in personality.4.The social loneliness of patients was positively correlated to HAMD score,anxiety factor score, cognitive handicap factor score,retardation factor score,dyssomnia factor score;whereas emotional loneliness was significantly positively correlated to HAMD score,anxiety factor score,cognitive handicap factor score,retardation factor score.Conclusions 1.Schizophrenia patients usually underwent higher degree of loneliness.2.In two dimensions of loneliness, there were different in gender,marriage condition,hospitalization environment,whether or not public medical care,family economic status,hospitalization frequency,incidence of disease,emotional experience and discriminated state of patients,Which were correlated to the course of disease of patients.3.The factors related to loneliness of schizophrenia patients may include social anxiety,self-esteem,depression,personality,social support,et al;which maybe have an effect on patients' loneliness.4.The factors including the depression status,N dimensions in personality,which maybe have an direct or indirect effect on patients' loneliness.
