Objectives To investigate the expression of B cell activating factor belonging to the TNF family(BAFF) in peripheral blood mononuclear cells(PBMCs)from patients with kidney transplantation and preliminary discuss the significance of BAFF on immunology of renal transplantation. Methods According to the time of their operations, the patients were separated into three groups just as follows: within a year, among one year and four years, after five years. Moreover, we choose healthy volunteers and hemodialysis as compares. The level of BAFF were measured by immunofluorescence and real time—polymerase chain reaction in PBMCs from the patients and control groups. Results In the case of the expression of BAFF,the patients after five years , among one year and four years had a higher level than the healthy controls(P<0.01),while there is no significant difference in other group compared with the healthy controls. Moreover,BAFF generally expresses at CD4+ and CD8+ T lymphocyte and the expression of CD4+ T lymphocyte is higher than CD8+ T lymphocyte. There have significant difference compared with the healthy controls(P<0.05).Conclusions These findings indicate that the trend of BAFF's expression gradually increase following the increase of operative time. The patients after five years have abnormal high expression in their T lymphocyte and the high expression might play an important role in chronic rejection after renal transplantation.
