Objective:To observe the effects of fire-needle therapy on lumber intervertebral disc herniation(LDH). @Methods:Sixty cases of LDH with no surgical indications were randomly divided into treatment group(n=30)and control group(n=30).The treatment group were treated by fire-needle at Jiaji points and A-shi points, two times a week. And the control group were treated by electroacupuncture at Jiaji points and A-shi points five times a week. The treatment course was two weeks in both groups. All the patients were assessed by use of the Japanese Orthopedic Association Scoring System(JOA score)and McGill Pain Questionnaire(MPQ)respectively before and after treatment. The baseline information(including sex, age, course of disease,JOA score and MPQ)of the two groups was analyzed by chi-square test and T test. The JOA and MPQ scores which were gotten before and after treatment were analyzed by paired-samples T test, and the mean of two groups by independent-sample T test. @Results:The baseline information of the two groups had no significant difference by chi-square test and T-test(P>0.05).The scores of JOA of both groups were found to increase after two weeks of treatment, with a significant difference compared to that of treatment before(P<0.01).The scores of MPQ of both groups were found to decrease after treatment, with a significant difference compared with that of treatment before(P<0.01).There was no significant difference of the scores of JOA after two weeks between the treatment group and control group,so were the feeling index and the total score of feeling and emotion of MPQ(P>0.05).The improvement rate of JOA scores of treatment group was higher than control group, and the scores of visual analogous scale(VAS)of treatment group decreased more than that of control group, and these differences were significant(P<0.05).The scores of present pain intensity(PPI)of treatment group decreased more than that of control group, and the difference was significant(P<0.01). @Conclusion:The fire-needle can improve the life quality and relieve the pain of LDH patients.Compared with electroacupuncture,it has a more obvious effect.Because of minor specimen and shortage of long-term observation, further research is needed to do.
