The Surgical Treatment Of The Injured Thumb

ObjectiveWe discuss the different treatment of the injured thumb that was injured by different causes.MethodsFrom September 2005 to May 2007,46 patients whose thumbs were injured were in the department of plastic surgery,second affiliated hospital zhejiang university college of medicine.Their mean age was 41 years old(rang from 19 to 63 years old).Classified by the division in anatomy of the injured thumbs.These operative treatments were done subsequently:18cases by directly saturation,8 cases by mediumthickness skin graft,3 cases by advance skin flap of the palmar pollex,3 cases by cross finger skin flap,11 cases by radio dorsal pedicle rotation skin flap of the forefinger and second metacarpus,3 cases by abdominal flap,2 cases by V-Y plasty,6 cases by transplantation of amputated finger,1 cases by thumb reconstruction.ResultsThe cases by directly saturation,medium-thickness skin graft, advance skin flap of the Palma pollex,cross finger skin flap,radio dorsal pedicle rotation skin flap of the forefinger and second metacarpus,V-Y plasty,thumb reconstruction are survived.Only one case by transplantation of amputated finger is partly dead.ConclusionThe surgeries must command the orthopedics skill and plastics skill in order to make the patients recover the most function and shape of their thumbs.
