| BackgroundThere are so many appcarances of aging faces. For example, skin thinnings, depress of the skin stress, atrophy of the subcutenous tissues and muscle wasting.Aging in the upper face becomes evident as the brows descend, wrinkles and furrows appear, and ptosis of upper eyelids.Coronal insicion and endoscopic with mini insicion are two approaches for surgical upper face lift.Since 1992,Core el reported endoscopic approach of upper face rejuvention, this technique has become a popular method with minimal incisions. But the efficacy of endoscopic forehead rejuvenation has been questioned for decades. Some surgeons has considered that endoscopic approach can not provides excellent visualization of the muscular anatomy to deal well with hypertonic procerus, corrugator, and frontalis muscles. We have a retrospective comparison of coronal and endoscopic upper facial rejuvention,to find out which approach is suitable for aging patients.MethodsFrom september 1995 to january 2007,a total of 67 patients underwent surgery for upper face rejuvenation. We assemble 41 patients whose age was from 42yr to 50yr as the object of review.23 patients underwent coronal upper face rejuvenation,18 patients underwent endoscopic upper face rejuvenation, with 10 to 31 months follow-up.All patients were evaluated by distance from the baseline to the superior border of medial eyebrow on the right and left side, satisfaction, scar, operation time, and other surgical complications such as hematoma, flap necrosis, infection, injury of nerves, recurrence, dyssymmetry, hairline elevation or alopecia, hypesthesia and wound dehiscence.Compared of the results among the coronal and endoscopic approach of upper facial rejuvenation.Result1 Compared with the brow elevating distance, two approaches have no statistical differences.2 In endoscopic approach, the brow elevating distance of 6 months has results statistically similar to the results of 12 months post operation.3 Compared with time of operation, coronal approach has more time than edoscopic approach statistically, but the time in hospital were similar.4 Coronal approach has more complications than endoscopic approach.ConclusionsBoth coronal and endoscopic approach smooth wrinkles and elevate eyebrows successfully, but endoscopic approach has less complications, less operation times, more widely indication. We found endoscopic approach is more suitable for aging patients. |
