In order to learn the mechanical properties of brachial artery(BA) in vivo, mechanical measurement was tested using ultrasound. Thrity patients with diabete mellitus(DM) were selected and 30 healthy subjects as control. Ultrasound images of BA and mechanical parameters were measured in vivo. Increments of diameter(D), area(A), compliance(C) and isometric stress were decreased after administration of nitroglycerin (NTG) and stress versus strain curve was markedly shifted rightward in group of DM compared with control (p<0.05-0.01) . The descrease of incremental elastic modulus (Einc diminished after administration of NTG and Einc versus pressure curve was markedly shifted downward in group of DM compared with control (p<0.05-0.01). Mechanical measurements of ultrasound might be a reliable method for calculating mechanical properties in vivo, which could provide a quantitative analysis of artery of patients with DM noinvasively. |
