Objective: Erythroderma psoriaticum is a rare and serious general disease. In order to investigate the possible etiology and the effect of therapy, we collected and summarized 30 cases of inpatients with erythroderma psoriaticum. Methods: We collected 30 cases of inpatients with erythroderma psoriaticum during 2002 to 2007 whose data were analyzed retrospectively. Results: In these 30 cases of inpatients, upper respiratory infection attributed to erythroderma psoriaticum was 6 cases(accounting for 20%),while cases of corticosteroids attributed to erythroderma psoriaticum was 5 cases (accounting for 16.7%).After combined therapy of corticosteroids,Glucosida Tripterygii TOTA,salvia miltiorrhiza,Acitretin,Hunchsu and Glycyrrhizin, all cases of the inpatients recovered or improved. Conclusions: 1.The factors that can cause erythroderma psoriaticum are various. To control the infection and to use corticosteroids reasonably can prevent the occurrences of erythroderma psoriaticum effectively. Enhancing health education to patients with psoriasis vulgaris could reduce the incidence of erythroderma psoriaticum.2.Regular use of corticosteroids and combined therapy can control the development of erythroderma psoriaticum effectively and achieve the aim of healing or improvement. Glycyrrhizin can reduce the side effects of corticosteroids .
