Objective The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between LVMI,RWT and the electrocardigraphic voltage criteria in Chinese hypertensive patients. Methods M-mode echocardiography was used to measure LVMI and RWT,which was performed according to the method described by Devereux.583 Chinese hypertensive patients(59.52% male)were enrolled. The correlation between ECG criteria and LVMI,RWT was evaluated. Results For female patients with BMI<24kg/m2, the highest correlation coefficient was found between Gubner product and LVMI(LVMI=86.741+0.252*Gubner product(mv*ms),r=0.374),as well as RWT (RWT=0.395+0.0004*Gubner product, r=0.229).For those female patients with BMI≥24kg/m2, LVMI=83.292+0.168*Cornell product(r=0.389), RWT=0.396+0.060*RavL (r=0.254).For male patients with BMI<24kg/m2, LVMI=94.114+28.200*RⅠ(r=0.322).No significant correlation was found between electrocardigraphic criteria and RWT in this group. For male patients with BMI≥24kg/m2, LVMI=83.146+0.176*Cornell product(r=0.456),RWT=0.398+0.0007*RavL product(r=0.273).The correlation became stronger as LVMI increased for female patients with BMI≥24kg/m2.But for the others, the correlation became weaker as LVMI increased, except Sokolow voltage and Sokolow product. Conclusions ECG criteria showed weak relationship to LVMI measured by M-mode echocardiogram independent on the increasing LVMI. Cornell product was found to be the best parameter for prediction of LVMI in either male or female Chinese hypertensive patients with BMI≥24kg/m2.
