Objective: To explore the variation rules of serum levels of leptin and soluble leptin receptor(sOB-R) in patients with rheumatoid arthritis(RA).Methods: Three groups of female patients with RA were enrolled:40 untreated female patients and 48 treated female patients and 48 female health controls subjects who have no significantly different body mass index(BMI).The serum levels of leptin and soluble leptin receptor were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. C-reactive protein was measured by immuno-nephelometery. Anti cyclic citrullinated peptide (CCP) antibody was measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Results: Compared with the health controls, the serum levels of leptin increased significantly(P<0.01)and the serum levels of soluble leptin receptor has no change significantly(P=0.05) in untreated group .And in treated group, the serum levels of leptin decreased significantly (P<0.05)and the serum levels of soluble leptin receptor increased significantly(P<0.05) compared with health controls or untreated group. The correlation analysis show the serum levels of leptin were correlated negatively with serum levels of soluble leptin receptor in untreated and treated group(r=-0.35,-0.319;P<0.05). In untreated group ,the serum levels of leptin and soluble leptin receptor were not correlated with C-reactive protein(P>0.05). And in treated group, the serum levels of leptin were correlated positively with C-reactive protein and anti cyclic citrullinated peptide ( CCP ) antibody(r=0.358,0.343;P<0.05).Conclusions: The serum levels of leptin and soluble leptin receptor were abnormal in patients with RA in treated and untreated RA patients. It is good to master the occuring and developing rules in patients with RA by analysis the serum levels of leptin and soluble leptin receptor.
