Objective: With the extensive application of broad-spectrum antibiotics, corticosteroids and immunosuppressant and the usage of advanced technologies, such as the promotion of organ transplants, as well as tumor chemotherapy and radiotherapy, the impact of fungal infections both in the frequency or in the area of pathogenic bacteria are constantly increase in recent years. Antifungal drug has become one of most important anti-infective drugs in clinical use and the huge amount of the OTC application. Introduce the progress on the development of antifungal drug and clinical application of the trend through investigation of the clinical application of antifungal agents and their market analysis is essential for clinical workers, simultaneously providing more drug information against fungal infections to patients, consequently elucidating further antifungal application of the rational and standardized management of scientific theory. Methods: This study is mainly based on the data of domestic economy authoritative medical information of hospital antifungal market and the clinical application from 2001 to 2005 on Web site, as well as domestic and foreign medical literature review and analysis, and the actual antifungal prescription analysis of some of the hospital in Zibo City from 2006 to 2007.Results and Conclusions: At present, antifungal drugs that act on the fungal cell membrane and nucleic acid still hold the vast majority of the market. With the widely use of these two types of traditional drugs, drug resistance is a common problem for the effective treatment of invasive fungal infections. Thus, the replacement cycle of new antifungal drugs will become shorter and shorter. Research on the action mechanism of antifungal agents is benefit to the development of the new drugs and improving the pharmaceutical characteristic. To understand the resistant mechanisms of drugs is benefit to the rational application of antifungal agents and decreasing the occurrence of fungal resistance. There is still a very wide gap between foreign and the domestic developmental level in the usage and research on antifungal drugs in the past two years because of less works and studies on these agents. There is still a broad market for the development of antifungal drugs, especially the low toxicity, high efficiency, and the broad-spectrum antifungal drugs, even broader space. The increasing profits of the patients including rational drug treatment, less cost, attribute to the advantage of the implementation of national drug prices and stock drugs by inviting public bidding in hospital. Although the daily cost of most treatment drugs is falling, the overall cost of drugs is rising because of the increasing frequency of drugs use, especially drugs with high price. Currently, reasonable individualized treatments for patients are realizable for much more types of antifungal drugs are available in clinic. The most appropriate combination of drugs or most effective drugs are chose on the understanding of action, mechanism, applications and adverse effects of antifungal drugs and the clinical conditions of patients in order to obtain the rational and economic treatment on fungal infections. In the 21st century, fungal genomics, bioinformatics and genetics tools continuously improve the feasibility of the treatment of refractory fungal infections. Undoubtedly, these progresses will play an important role in the struggle of fungal infections.
