Objective To understand the status of life and prevalence of chronic diseases among retired employees from steel industry in Guangzhou and provide evidences for improving health care measures and life quality of retired employees from steel industry in Guangzhou city.Methods Based on the data of health examination and individual healthy records in 2002,cross-sectional study was carried out by establishing cohort of retired workers from steel industry.Healthy archives were established and managed by well trained medical workers from prevention and treatment center for occupational diseases in Guangzhou city.The data were inputed into ACCESS database and SPSS 13.0 software package was applied for statistical analysis which mainly included Descriptives,Chi-square test,Logistic regression.Results1.The survey was undertaken in 1653 retired employees from steel industry in Guangzhou city in all,in which have 907 male(smallest 43 years old,biggest 85 years old,average age 62.45±6.55 years old) and 746 Female(smallest 43 years old,biggest 83 years old,average age 57.16±7.51 years old);Married accounts for 89.4%;The main occupations were the productive workers(1265 persons),the administrative personnel(207 persons) and the service workers(181 persons);The school record technical college and above only accounts for 3.0%;From the self-rated health to have 80.%.2.The subjects life present situation mainly as follows:Being enough economic condition only accounts for 1.9%,insufficient or serious insufficient was 13.3%, maintains the basically livelihood to account for 71.7%;Frequently contacting with the relatives and friends was 59.2%,very little relates accounts for 7.0%;in the medical service form the government expense only accounts for 7.2%,had the medicare accounts for 48.7%;Occasionally or ever did not participate in the social activity to account for 86.5%;A person lived alone the opportunity to have frequently also occupies 24.4%.In the general habits and customs did not smoking has 65.3%,did not or nearly did not drinking alcohol to account for 64.9%,did not eaten the fruits and vegetables only to account for 2.8%,did not drinking tea nearly to have 17.4%,did not drinking the milk to have 58.6%,not frequent carries on the physical training to have 26.5%.3.By single factor analysis,significant differences(P<0.05) were found in the influence on the self-rated health from factors such as education background, economic status,style of health care cost,drinking,physical excises,eating fruits, drinking tea,relation with relative and friends,opportunity to stay alone,age,etc all. The single factor were negative results to the subjects as the sex,the marriage,the occupation,smoking,drinking the milk,participate in the social activity.Through multiply factors analysis,negative results were observed in the influence on the self-rated health from factors such as education background,eating fruits,drinking tea and opportunity to stay alone.However,there were significant differences(P<0.05) in the influence on the self-rated from factors such as economic status,style of health care cost,drinking,physical excises,relation with relative and friends and age.4.In this survey,the total prevalence rate occupies first five were bone of arthrosis, hypertension disease,the heart disease,the chronic gastric disease and the osteoporosis.5.Prevalence of some chronic non-communicable diseases were found significantly different at some special age interval among various occupational workers.In the male workers,the prevalence of gallstone in administrative personnel was observed significantly higher(P<0.01) than that in productive workers and service workers at the age interval form 50 to 59.The prevalence of tumor was also observed significantly higher(P<0.05) than that in the productive workers and service workers at the age interval from 50 to 59.The prevalence of cataract in the productive workers was shown significantly higher(P<0.05) than that in the administrative personnel and service workers at the age interval from 60 to 69.Prevalence of hypertensive disease in the administrative personnel was observed significantly higher(P<0.05) than that in productive workers and service workers at the age interval from 70 to 85. Significant difference(P<0.05) was also found in the prevalence of chronic nephrosis in the administrative personnel at the age interval from 70 to 85,higher than that in the productive and service workers.In the female workers,the prevalence of tumor was observed significantly higher (P<0.05) than that in the productive workers and service workers at the age interval from 43 to 49.The prevalence of bone of arthrosis and diabete mellitus in the productive workers was significantly higher(P<0.05) than that in the administrative personnel and service workers at the age interval from 50 to 59 and from 70 to 85. Significant difference(P<0.05) was also found in the prevalence of chronic pulmonary disease in the service workers at the age interval from 50 to 59,higher than that in the productive and administrative personnel.6.Prevalence of some chronic diseases were found significantly different at some special age interval among the same occupational workers.Significant differences were found in most of the chronic disease's prevalence in female workers,higher than that in the males.Detailed results were described as follows.The prevalence of bone of arthrosis,osteoporosis,cataract and gallstone in female productive workers were significantly higher(P<0.05) than that in male workers at the age interval from 50 to 59.At the age interval from 60 to 69,the prevalence of bone of arthrosis,hypertensive disease,heart disease,osteoporosis, cataract,diabetes mellitus,urinary tract infection in the female productive workers were significantly higher(P<0.05) than that in the male workers.At the age interval from 70 to 85,the prevalence of bone of arthrosis,osteoporosis,urinary tract infection in the female productive workers were significantly higher(P<0.05) than that in the male workers. On the other side,at the age interval from 50 to 69,the prevalence of chronic pulmonary disease and chronic hepatopathy in the male productive workers were significantly higher than that in the female.7.Negative results were observed in the prevalence of same disease in the female workers compared with that in the male workers when the burden of work intensity and occupational hazard factors was appropriate.8.Multiply factors analysis show that sex was an influencing factor to the development of bone of arthrosis,hypertensive disease,heart disease,osteoporosis, cataract and chronic hepatopathy.Education background was an influencing factor to the development of bone of arthrosis,cataract and tumor.Marriage and tea were not contributed to the development of diseases as this text.Occupation was an influencing factor contributing to the development of tumor.Smoking was contributed to the development of hypertensive disease,osteoporosis and chronic pulmonary disease. Drinking was a risk factor to the development of bone of arthrosis,osteoporosis and tumor.Physical exercise was a protect factor to the development of bone of arthrosis, hypertensive disease,heart disease,osteoporosis and chronic pulmonary disease and chronic nephrosis.Eating fruits was a benefit factor to the development of bone of arthrosis,chronic pulmonary disease and chronic nephrosis.Milk consume was also a protect factor to the development of bone of arthrosis, cataract diabetes mellitus,apoplexy and tumor.However,age was a risk factor to the development of hypertensive disease,heart disease,chronic gastropathy,osteoporosis, cataract,urinary tract infection and apoplexy.Conclusions1.This survey Demonstrated:At present majority person's cultural level were not high,the life current economic condition were not abundant,the public health services were few,the medical expense lacks the effective safeguard,few participation social activity;The habits and customs were good,did not smoking,did not drinking, frequently drinking tea and eaten the fruits and vegetables,the participation physical training person occupies most.2.In this survey,the total prevalence rate occupies first five were bone of arthrosis, hypertensive disease,the heart disease,the chronic gastric disease and the osteoporosis.The female chronic disease prevalence rate was higher than the male as a whole;Productive workers chronic disease prevalence rate was higher than the administrative personnel and the service workers as a whole;The chronic disease mainly appears after 50 years old.3.Prevalence of some chronic diseases were found significantly different at some special age interval among various occupational workers.4.Prevalence of some chronic diseases were found significantly different at some special age interval among the same occupational workers.5.Negative results were observed in the prevalence of same disease in the female workers compared with that in the male workers when the burden of work intensity and occupational hazard factors were appropriate.6.Relational life factors show different influence on the chronic disease in retired workers.7.Through multiply factors analysis,significant differences were found in the influence on the self-rated health from factors such as economic status,style of health care cost,drinking,physical excises,relation with relative and friends and age.
