Spectrum Method In Tongue Inspection

Tongue inspection belongs to inspection of traditional Chinese medicine, and plays an important part in diagnosing. By inspecting the tongue proper and tongue coating, information related with physiological function and pathological changes can be got. The old methods, including colorimetric method and so on, are strongly dependent to the parameters of the light resource.A new method based on spectrum was discussed in this paper in order to show the reflect characteristic of the tongue more objectively. Reflected light was collected, and reflectivity was calculated and analyzed. Superposed averaging, smoothing filtering and normalizing were used for the first time to reduce the effect of spectrum of the light resource. In this way a curve was got to show the reflect characteristic of the tongue.By comparing the curves of different parts of one volunteer, the same tongue in different light resource, and the same tongue picture of different people, a conclusion that this method can reduce the effect of spectrum of the light resource, acquisition conditions and external environment can be got. Then, the method of curve analyzing based on morphological characteristics, differential spectrum, PCA and neural networks were discussed to extract the characteristics. At the end of this paper, the different tongue pictures of apoplexy were got and analyzed to proof that this method can give more exactly information of the tongue, which will be useful in the future.In order to research the tcm symptom in a scientific way, a new principle was proposed in this paper. Because metric is the base of science, so only using a scientific measure method, can the development of TCM and the combination between TCM and science be discussed. This paper used a new metric method to measure the symptom, and verified the good performance of the spectrum. It can be hoped to find a new way to improve the accuracy of TCM diagnosing, and build the connection between tongue and symptom.
