Objective To study the clinic significance and relationship among the expression of Mcl-1 , Bax and Caspase-3 in hepatocellular carcinoma and paracancerous tissue. To explore the correlation of Mcl-1,Bax and Caspase-3 with clinical pathology characteristics of specimen. Methods The expression of Mcl-1 and Bax and Caspase-3 was detected by EnvisionTM immunohistochemistry with 48 cases of HCC and paracancerous tissues. The circumstance combined with clinical pathology data was analyzed. Results (1) The positive rate of Mcl-1 and Bax and Caspase-3 was 60.4%(29/48),9.2%(14/48),9.6%(19/48)in HCC tissues respectively. While that in paracancerous tissues was 13.0%(6/46),50.0%(23/46),60.9% ( 28/46 ) respectively with significant difference between them(P>0.05). (2) There was significant correlation between Mcl-1 expression and Edmonson stage, tumor diameter, vein invasion, intrahepatic metastasis(P<0.05). (3) Caspase-3 was positively correlated with Bax expression in HCC tissues(r=0.418, P=0.003), which shows that the lower expression of Bax, the lower expression of the corresponding Caspase-3, similarly, the apoptosis in HCC also decreased. Conclusion The exceptionally high levels of Mcl-1 expression and the low expression of Bax and Caspase-3 in hepatocellular carcinoma tissues co-inhibit the apoptosis of hepatoma carcinoma cell, so them plays a important role at the occurrence of HCC and the development process.
