Objective:To investigate the correlation between standard uptake value(SUV) of 18F- FDG PET-CT and primary tumor size,clinical staging,pathological type,cell differentiation of non-small cell lung cancer(NSCLC) patients who received the examination of 18F - FDG PET-CT before treatments.Material and Methods:(1) 80 patients who are diagnosed as NSCLC patients accepted whole body 18FDG PET-CT scan before treatment.Maximal SUVs(SUVmax) which were obtained by selecting a small region of interest(ROI) were used in the analysis.(2)The data were analyzed by software SPSS11.5.Pearson correlation test, Spearman grade correlation test and single factor analysis of variance were used to analyse the correlation between standard uptake value(SUV) of 18F- FDG PET-CT and primary tumor size,clinical staging,pathological type,cell differentiation.Results:(1) We divided the NSCLC patients into 2 groups:the ones whose tumor diameter>3cm and the ones whose tumor diameter≤3cm.We observed that there were significant differences in SUVmax between the two groups(t=4.17,p<0.05).(2) SUVmax was obviously different among different clinical staging groups by single factor analysis of variance,(F=7.05,P=0.005).(3) The differences of SUVmax among different pathological type groups showed no statistical meaning(F=1.931,P>0.05),it had no statistical difference among different cell differentiation groups,either(F=1.53, P>0.05).(4) The primary tumor size and clinical staging were positively related to SUVmax(r=0.658,P<0.01;r=0.286,P<0.05 ),but pathological type and cell differentiation of NSCLC are not related to SUVmax(r=0.089,0.240,P>0.05).Conclusions:18F- FDG PET-CT SUVmax is positively related to primary tumor size and clinical staging,but not related to pathological type and cell differentiation of NSCLC. Our study suggests that the higher the SUVmax of ROI is,the severer of the patient's disease.As for those lung cancer patients who are diagnosed by image methods but not by pathology methods,18F- FDG PET-CT has no use in the forecasts of cell differentiation and pathology of tumor cell.
